Confidentiality & Privacy Policy
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and your information cannot be disclosed without written permission. However, there are exceptions where disclosure is required by law:
Legal Exceptions to Confidentiality

Suspected Child, Dependent Adult, or Elder Abuse: I am legally required to report suspected abuse to the appropriate authorities.

Threats of Harm to Others: If you threaten serious bodily harm to another person, I must notify law enforcement and the intended victim.

Risk of Self-Harm or Suicide: If you intend to harm yourself, I will make every effort to work with you to ensure your safety. If you do not cooperate, I may take further steps as required by law to protect you.
Notice of Privacy Practices (HIPAA)
In addition to the above limits of confidentiality, federal law (HIPAA) requires that I provide you with a Notice of Privacy Practices explaining how your health information may be used and disclosed.
Your Rights
You have the right to:

Access and obtain a copy of your records.

Request corrections to your records.

Request limits on how your information is shared.

Ask for confidential communications (e.g., contact only at a certain number).

Receive a list of disclosures made for purposes other than treatment, payment, or operations.

Receive a paper or electronic copy of this notice at any time.
How I Use and Share Your Information
I may use or disclose your information for:

Treatment: To provide, coordinate, or manage your mental health care.

Payment: To bill insurance and obtain payment for services.

Healthcare Operations: For practice management, supervision, and quality improvement.
I may also disclose information as required or permitted by law, including public health reporting, law enforcement, court orders, and oversight activities.
My Responsibilities

I am required by law to maintain the privacy and security of your protected health information.

I will notify you promptly if a breach occurs that may compromise your information.

I must follow the practices described in this notice and provide you a copy upon request.
Complaints
If you believe your privacy rights have been violated, you may file a complaint with my office or with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Filing a complaint will not affect your care.
